The sister size bras are the bras related to your actual bra size which have the same cup volume. These are the alternate sizes of your actual size bra where the cup volume is the same even though the band size and cup size changes.

Sister size up: bra with one band size larger and one cup size smaller than actual size. For example, if actual size is 34B, sister size up would be 36A.

Sister size down: bra with one band size smaller and one cup size bigger than actual size. For example, if actual size is 34B, sister size down would be 32C.

Christine Faraj Savarese, the Bra Fit Expert says, “By going down in the band size and up in the cup size, the cup capacity of the bra will remain the same.”

Understanding the Sister Sizing

Many women do not know about the sister sizing or the sister sizes bras. But bra sizing can be confusing with the ups and downs in band sizes and cup sizes.

Sister size is all about the cup volume of the bra. An A cup is not always the same size and B cup is not always the same and same goes with C, D and so on. Bra cup size is depended upon the band size. With the increasing band size, cup size also gets larger. Thus, A cup size of 34C bra is smaller than the cup size of 36C bra even though they both are C cups.

Likewise, 36B has smaller cup size than 38B even though both are labeled as B cups. The cup of larger band size has the larger volume than the smaller band size. But the cup of 36C and 38B have the same cup volume despite their labeled cup is B and C. They both can fit the same breasts as they have the same cup volume or the cup capacity. They are called the sister sizes.

If it is very difficult to find the bra of your actual size, you can always go for sister sizes to find correctly fitting bra.   • You should not always wear the sister sizes, as they vary accruing to the styles and brands.
